Go to ==> Customize Journal
Go to ==> 2. Select New Theme - type in the search field "Flexible Squares" - select "Apply Theme" to any of the options - it shouldn't matter which one :)
In the upper right box ==> under your newly applied theme, select "Customize Your Theme"

Your links you will have to modify yourself. To do that, go here. You can have as few or as many as you like. I highly recommend a "post an entry" link and other things you frequently use around lj - like managing your user pics or your image gallery. That is what I use my top chunk of links for and I find it fantastic!

If you would like to use the "blurb" in the sidebar, just be sure to give it a title or the code goes funky on occasion. =3 Your "friends, archive, profile, recent entries" is at the very top of the page - if you didn't catch that.
